Each week, we write for five minutes, freely, on a one-word prompt. No time for much planning or revising. We write quickly, then post, a flash-mob linking together at Kate Motaung’s site. It’s fun!
This week’s prompt: WHISPER.

Friends share secrets
Lovers promise hearts
It’s the breathy talk of intimacy,
And it’s how God speaks to me.
And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD
was not in the fire.
And after the fire
the sound of a low whisper.”
 1 Kings 19:12

Why is it so hard?
I want to be loud, to be heard. Sounding my own voice!
I’ve want to get things done, get somewhere. Stopping is for the weak!
I’m listening to so many other things, people, callings. Speak up!
But He whispers still. Never changing. Only expecting me to.
And He whispers because to hear Him, I must be quiet, still, and leaning in.
To hear His whispers, I must be humble. And know I’m not Him.
And when I’m stooped low enough, I do hear…
Shhhhh…. Come close, friend. I love you.

Sometimes it's frustrating to not hear God's voice when we're desperate to hear Him. I mean, why can't He just speak a little loudly? But then hearing His voice takes a lot of practice and faith, familiarity of His voice. And when we hear it, it's priceless. 🙂
