I’m a happy wife, mom of four lovely adult/married daughters, and “Nana” (pronounced to rhyme with “Papa,” not “banana”) to nine fabulous grands, with whom I love to hang out one-on-one. I am unemployed (my husband, Bob, calls it “long-term maternity leave with benefits”), but most days I wish I had a clone to get everything done. Which it never is. In “discretionary” time I love to read and knit.
My Favorite Makeup: Any and all Beauty Counter products!! I love these products, because I know they are safe for my skin’s absorption, not adding harmful chemicals/substances to my body (including known carcinogens and hormone disruptors, which are in many widely used commercial beauty products). And they feel sooo good! I actually look forward to getting my face ready for bed. From shampoo to body wash, moisturizers to face oils, body oil to lotion, makeup—face, eyes, lips, they’re fabulous. My Favorite House I’ve Ever Lived: The first house my husband and I purchased, in December 1971, in Warson Woods. It is the oldest house in Warson Woods, on Andrew Drive. Bob was in the construction business at the time, and we made a wonderful addition to it, both upstairs (a master bedroom/bath and one girl’s bedroom, a nursery for daughter Mary Catherine) and down (a breakfast room).
I loved that house, and if it would have fit all there were to be of us eventually and God hadn’t moved us out-of-town for a couple years, we would still be there! And—it was the last time in my married life, since we moved from there in 1979, that our home was “complete” and fully decorated and I was really organized, with a place for everything and everything in its place. Sadly, it’s been downhill on those fronts ever since!
My Favorite Restaurant: Jimmy Fiala’s The Crossing, on Forsyth in Clayton—bar none!! I LOVE going there! It doesn’t happen often, but it’s one of my favorite special things to do. The food is out of this world, even the bread and butter (I know, it sounds crazy to single that out, but it is).
The portions are perfect. Great waiters, several of whom we’ve gotten to know and always enjoy seeing. (Jimmy treats his employees well, and they stick around.) It is truly a delightful experience. A wonderful date night!
My Favorite Website: You might have to be a knitter to appreciate this one. I have many fav knit sites, but Brooklyn Tweed is very cool! (Look this one up even if you’re not a knitter and check out their designs.) They originated in Brooklyn, NY (hence the name, of course) but have recently relocated to Portland, Oregon. A talented designer named Jared Flood heads it up. They market a beautiful grade of wool in five different weights and yummy colors; their wool is American sourced and minimally processed. And—they feature awesome designs.
The knitting world is no longer for rocking chair grandmas; there are beautiful hand knit patterns from designers all over the world. Brooklyn Tweed has lovely, interesting and sometimes challenging to knit, and well written patterns that are uniquely beautiful. When their seasonal “Lookbook” comes out, it can be a “disaster” for me! My daughters and Molly Snyder will be inheriting my stash one day.
“We are passionate about wool, knitting and design. We develop and manufacture breed-specific yarns that support domestic textile production—designing, sourcing, dyeing and spinning our yarns within the USA. Our design team is committed to producing high-quality, sophisticated knitwear patterns for the modern handknitter, especially tailored for the wool yarns we create.” – Brooklyn Tweed’s Mission
My Favorite Cleaning Product: All things Norwex, especially their cleaning cloths. Norwex’s mission is to have cleaning chemical-free homes, and I love the way their products have simplified my cleaning life.
Their cloths—for general cleaning, windows, dishes, countertops, etc.—are uniquely woven of a very high grade microfiber that cleans simply with water. A damp Norwex EnviroCloth removes about any stain—smudgy spots on woodwork, carpet spots, etc.; it’s amazing what it can do. I can’t list all their fabulous products here and testify to how they work, but I have tried many of them and am very pleased. Contact consultant Sara for more information or to make a purchase.
